DISCO Corporation to Strengthen its Used Equipment Business
DISCO Corporation (Head Office: Ota-ku, Tokyo, President: Kazuma Sekiya) has announced plans to strengthen and develop its used equipment business, which involves buying back and refurbishing used DISCO equipment.
There is growing demand for used equipment in order to reduce the financial burden of capital investment to improve production capabilities and for early start-up of production lines, as well as for machine purchases in emerging countries, small- and medium-sized factories, universities, and R&D laboratories.
The used semiconductor manufacturing equipment market is worth an estimated US$6 billion (according to a 2010 SEMI study) and continues to grow at a constant rate. Sales are especially strong for non-semiconductor manufacturer third-party end-users, however many are reluctant to proceed due to the disadvantages of unsupported maintenance and parts.
In response to this, DISCO has decided to strengthen its buyback-refurbish-resale business for equipment to deliver high-quality refurbished equipment to customers rapidly and at low cost.
DISCO will use its global network to source and buy used equipment, with refurbishment work conducted by specialist engineers at the Refurbishing Center at the DISCO HI-TEC SINGAPORE PTE LTD One-Stop Solution Center (opened in July 2012).
DISCO aims to achieve a sales target of 500 million yen within the first year and 2 billion yen in three years.
Advantages to customers:
Reduced capital expenditure burden and the ability to deliver equipment in shorter lead times.
(When buying a new unit to replace an existing unit, the trade-in price can contribute toward the purchase cost.)
High quality refurbishments conducted by DISCO, giving end-users added confidence.
After service such as parts supply and spot checks can be handled by DISCO Customer Engineers.
Modifications to standard specifications are also supported so that the equipment can meet the customers' exact requirements.
When purchasing a new unit, customers can take full advantage of DISCO’s test cut services to select the optimal parameters for their process.
Reusing and recycling existing equipment reduces the environmental impact compared to purchasing a new unit.
